New gig.

I’m super stoked to have been invited to join the Miso Media iOS development team! There’s some exciting stuff happening at Miso Media and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.

However, there’s a lot of work ahead, and as a result I’m going to have to really focus my efforts on the mountain of development work that is ahead of me at Miso. Thus, some of my own personal iOS projects are going to have to be put on hold.

That being said, if you are waiting the wings of a specific feature from Prop Phone (or Thumbafon) you’ve got to let me know. I’m sure I could squeeze in some extra work if I know that my apps are being used and those users need updates. Otherwise, you could be waiting quite awhile.

Small iOS 5 snafu

I just got the Prop Phone update submitted and available when I realized that there’s been a slight change with regard to Bluetooth connections in iOS 5. Where an App would be able to automatically access a Bluetooth connection if WiFi was not available implicitly, now I need to add a few programming tweaks to make that happen explicitly.

Not that big of a deal, but it means that in the meantime Prop Phone connections over Bluetooth will not work when using iOS 5. I should have this remedied by next week.

An Update About Updates

A big week this week with wholly unrealistic goals and deadlines. But hey… That’s how I role!

First up is a sizable update for Prop Phone, which will be submitted by the end of the week. I received some feature requests from users in the first few weeks of it’s release. Some of them are going to have to wait a bit but a few are going in pronto. First on the list is a combination “unlock” for the Action! view to insure that a performer doesn’t accidentally return to the Prop Settings screen. Second on the list… a Cue List!

I’ve been working to implement this logically with remote control abilities. The first iteration will report the current track to the Controller and you’ll be able to move forward or backwards through the Cue List. However, I’m laying the groundwork for a “soundboard” style interface from the Controller, which will be an incremental update within the next 4-6 weeks.

Second up is a much needed update to Thumbafon. Rather than adding a bunch of features, this update will be a complete overhaul of the UI, an implementation for the iPad, some code cleaning and FINALLY free downloadable server software to allow people to create their own interactive pieces. Additionally there will be two versions, an iAd supported free version and a $.99 Ad free version. (gotta make a living!)

I’m working my rear off this week to get this all done ASAP so I can start on the next project!
